February 24, 2022, Kaliningrad. In the framework of the modernization of EDB Fakel test facilities (a part of JSC NPO Energomash rocket engine manufacturing integrated structure of the Roscosmos state corporation) a new stationary cryogenic tank for storage and supply of liquid nitrogen was installed on the enterprise’s vacuum test stand. Now the vacuum test stand can operate autonomously and have its own modern and technologically advanced system for storing and supplying liquid nitrogen.
Kirill Savchenko, Deputy Chief Designer on Testing: “The new equipment will increase the reliability of the test facilities of EDB Fakel. Due to the use of modern technologies, including isolating materials, the cryogenic tank will permit to store safely up to 45 tons of liquid nitrogen. The installation of the cryogenic tank was carried out jointly with the manufacturer, an expert and installation organization, as well as specialists from the EDB Fakel test department.
At present, twenty vacuum chambers are installed at EDB Fakel. This equipment makes it possible to perform climatic and cyclic thermal tests, mechanical tests, thermal vacuum and firing tests in conditions close to the vacuum of space.
