The Information and analysis center for positioning, navigation and timing reports that the spacecraft Glonass-M, successfully placed into the orbit on board of Soyuz launcher on May 27, 2019 has joined the Glonass constellation and is currently being introduced into the system.
The spacecraft is equipped with thermocatalytic thrusters К50-10.1 and ТК500. The ТК-500 aimed at positioning was used for the first time on board of Glonass-M spacecrafts as early as in 2003. This event marked a new milestone for thermocatalytic thrusters that will remain indispensable for many years. Navigation satellites form an integral part of the Glonass navigation system. Today Glonass constellation accounts for 27 spacecrafts: one belongs to the new Glonass-K generation is currently being tested in flight and another spacecraft named Glonass-M is in the orbital reserve.
On 12 October 1982, the first Glonass spacecraft equipped with electric propulsion produced by Fakel reached the orbit. This achievement became a benchmark for the largest Russian navigation system.
All generations of Glonass spacecrafts (Glonass,Glonass-M, Glonass-K) are equipped with thrusters developed and manufactured by the EDB Fakel.
